Chris is married to Susan Silver, who is also Soundgarden's manager.

Subject: matt and his skins

well, to follow seth's lead, I'm going to throw in my 2c on matt
cameron, and why I like his stuff.

matt, imho, is probably the best rock drummer going around at the
moment. I say at the moment because I was over littlejoe's house
yesterday, and we were listening to led zeppelin. and anyone who knows
john bonham's drumming can vouch for me when I say that he must be one of
the alltime best rock drummers the world has seen.

anyway, back to soundgarden and matt (sorry seth :).

his style is awfully hard to describe, simply because he can do
*so* much with his kit and his sticks. he can play music that varies so
much from song to song, and sometimes within the song itself, that he
can't be categorised, or tallied, as he would say.

what makes a drummer special for me (I have played a bit) is what
he does in his rolls and fills. I'm sure that the teenage crowd might be
happy to listen to 4/4 beat with no variation all day, but that doesn't
work for me.

so for matt, it is what he does on the beat, and often between
the beats, which makes my head rock from side to side. his work is so
cool, and moves easily from soft to hard. I'd argue that the basis for
soundgarden's music is not melody, but the rhythm, and matt's drumming
is what the rest of the guys play around.

for instance, take spoonman. the beat for this song is in a very
wierd time signature. now, I know that isn't a revelation for
soundgarden or their fans, but how many guys are there around who could
step onto the stage and play that song in front of a huge audience?

maybe the easiest way (should I have started with this?) to describe
him is to compare his songs to each other. maybe beyond the wheel with
head down. or like suicide and fourth of july. or mind riot and my
wave. but while he can play a lot of different ways (he is a fairly
proficient jazz drummer too), he does have his own style. it is hard to
describe (maybe because I listen to every beat he makes :), too hard for
me.

enough gushing from me. wheel in someone who can say what I mean :)

ps.	he writes a bunch of stuff too.
pss.	he is rated by ginger baker as one of the two coolest drummers
	around.

Well, I reckon the last couple of days have given me more interesting
reading than usual - with some of you writing about when/how you first "got
into" Soundgarden. Good stuff! {but sorry that beautiful girl didn't move
in next door, Moon Druid!!} Anyway, hope you don't mind but I'm going to
add my piece..........

After my second serious knee injury from playing sport, which left me quite
devastated because it meant missing out on a full season and not being able
to run properly, not to mention the PAIN :-O :-( that went with it, I
signed up with a local gym and started 'pumping weights' to keep the muscles
around my knees strong. This was nearly two years ago. I thought I'd be
getting into aerobics as soon as my knee was strong enough, but I found
myself really having fun in the weights section of the gym. And I reckon as
well as the fact that I find aerobics rather boring (not to mention I'm
rather uncoordinated!), I liked the gym so much because the music played
there was 'my kind of music'............

One particular guy there used to bring in his CDs to play, one of them being
the Superunknown album. I'd already heard Black Hole Sun & had loved it,
but once I realised Spoonman was on the same album I felt compelled to rush
out & buy it for myself. And I just love the whole album. Since then I've
joined this list, and have just ordered Badmotorfinger through the CD club
I'm part of. Eventually I'll get Soundgarden's other albums.

It just goes to show that what might seem a tragedy at the time (like me
stuffing up my knee) can turn into something pretty cool. Because without
that knee injury I wouldn't have joined the gym, wouldn't know the new
friends I made there (especially Jamie, the guy who brought in his CDs -
bless his gorgeous soul), and probably wouldn't now know that wonderful band
called Soundgarden!!

That's my story. Like it or lump it. :-)

I'll answer that for all of us. I went and looked up her picture in the
SG homepage under misc. My conclusion is (and I don't think it's a
matter of opinion) she is not "hot" by any means. Maybe it was a bad picture.
Can anyone tell me where to find a better one? But ultimately it doesn't
matter at all.
Thanks for the help in trying to get that clarified, Carolyn the mf.

Subject: drummers and black hole fans

I have to admit that I was pretty amazed after reading today's digest.
First of all, I agree that this "argument" on drummers is futile.
Entertaining, yes. But futile. I personally like Matt's style because
he has some kick ass fills and really cool off-timed beats. It's not
just that static boom-ba-boom-ba-boom. It's really hard to air-drum to.

The other thing I feel, after reading the most recent digest, was suprise
over the fact that TWO of the fans that wrote in to discuss their
fanship, were MTV converts! Now, I won't get into the "who's a better
fan becuase who liked them longer" (even though it is a fun game to
play... eventually there is always SOMEONE who will blow your ass out of
the water), but I was starting to get bummed out on SG when Black Hole
Video came out. I thought they were being a little too heavily rotated.
I DO remember seeing the Outshined video on Headbanger's Ball. About the
same time that I saw the Man in a Box video (scared me shitless)...
Already then, too, was I a fan. It just all seems too clear how
influential MTV is.

I DID just hear the Like Suicide acoustic version. Beautiful... I would
like to hear a SG unplugged. I loved Live's. FUCKING HATED Hole's,
loved Pearl Jam's, loved Nirvana's. I think that SG would do just fine.
I would give many a tooth to hear CC do "mind riot" again like he did at
the Greek Theatre in Berkeley last year.

Would someone please write in and tell me about their neato "well I know
someone who met so-and-so" stories? And their first SG concert stories?
I love those.

Love, Kate
oh, and can we please avoid lengthy discussions on the size of ANYONE's
veins? We seem to think that artist's lives are public domain a bit too
often.

Can't think of any right now, but it would be fun if they'd do a cover of

Naah, it would sound wierd with Bono's voice...

Give me a break, you are going to say that Susan is not hot just because of a
picture. Hey, she captured Chris's heard, she manages one of the greatest
bands, she has a job in the wonderful world of rock n' roll, etc, etc. Hot,
does not mean you look good in a picture. I had to listen to some of you rag
on Ben's looks, now your going to start on Susan. Shit, people get pass the
surface.

People have been talking about how they got into SG, well I notices them for
the first time when I saw the JCP video. Did I like them because of the
music - NO. All I could see was Chris and how much he looked like thist guy I
was engaged to. This man was a SOB, that try to kill me and then made my life
a living hell for two years by following me around.

Point, I still think Chris is one hot guy, based on his talents not just his
looks. I be willing to bet Susan is one fine lady, who could cook any guy on
this list bacon in a HOT MINUTE.

Sorry, about this posting, I really get rack over people forming likes and
dislikes on looks, and no I don't look like the wicked witch of the west. I
consider myself average with a great part of ............. eyes (gotch').

Okay - Well, many of you took some offence at my last mail.

Foo Fighters is one of the worst crap-ass bands? Is that like saying you
 don't like them?

MTV driven idiots? Never said any of you were. However, it would
appear, and I suppose you'd have to hear it from your "messiah" that
the popularity of Soundgarden actually doubled from the release of the
Black Hole Sun video. But I'm not saying anybody is an MTV idiot, why
 would I do that?

Fuck you bitch? Hey, you certainly went to school, EJ Fry. I didn't judge
you, wouldn't dream of it. I mean, a few people say that I'm
categorising, that ain't true, of the mail that I read, over 200 pieces,
all I heard was MTV, MTV, MTV ... I think you know what I mean.

Blind Dog? Man, you are my fucking hero, I just love the way you put a
dot after your numbers, and tabs as well, you don't mind if I use it a
 while do you, okay ...

	1. I consider my opinion to be as important as any other, and
yes, that includes Chris Cornell. And if it wasn't
interesting then you wouldn't have replied to it, would
 		you?
	2. Are you saying that Pearl Jam are not comercial? I find that
hard to believe. Do you know how many people bought the Neil Young album solely on the fact that Pearl Jam were
playing? Do you not consider playing live, on the MTV
awards of all places, "keep on rocking in the free world", a comercial move, I mean, do you really belive that Neil
Young would have got on there on his own.
	3. How can you say a band is more talented than another, all
bands have pro's and con's, as well as different styles
and ideas. Talent cannot be measured, and if you could
show me how, I would be greatly interested.
	4. I never intended to offend anyone with my last mail, if I did then I apologise, I intended to say what I felt, of which
		I still stand by.

Soundgarden and Chili Peppers? I don't suppose it's possible to like
both then? I don't even think it's worth the argument so I'll leave it
 there.

Pearl Jam? I don't hate Pearl Jam, I've got most of their albums and
singles, I think they're a good band, I just wonder where their music's
 going.

ClownWithBazooka? Okay, you think Soundgarden are the four best
musicians in the world? I think that's a bit childish myself. First
off, Matt is a good drummer, I know, I play drums myself. Have you ever
heard any others Clown, how about Buddy Rich, John Bonham, Ginger Baker,
Mitch Mitchall, Lars Ulrich ... Do you need more? Chris, I agree a
fantastic vocalist but how about Eddie Vedder, Gary Stringer, Robert
Plant, Bono, Layne Staley. Kim, fine guitarist, what about Tom Morello,
Mike McCready, Jimmy Page, Joe Perry, Marty Freidman. I'm getting
bored now, so I think you see the picture. Don't talk shit, dear, it
won't do your reputation any good. I'll apologise for offending you in
 advance.

Jovica Popovic? It's quite nice of you to inform me that it doesn't
mention anything about Pearl Jam playing on the Neil Young album, wanna
tell me how the fuck you know then? What magazine or channel have you
been viewing lately. It's nice to know people like you, they talk more
shit than I do. And yes, I do respect Neil Young for what he's done,
doesn't mean I have to like it, and I'm not telling you to, and I don't
 think I ever did.

Ace of Base? WILLIAAJ, I think you're ability to tell me the sort of
music I like through what I type is nothing short of wank. I'll
apologise for that in advance as well.

Back to reason, I too agree that the acoustic version of Like Suicide is
mighty fine. Anybody heard Kyle Petty, Son of Richard, that too is
 mighty fine.

First of the all, I believe my exact quote was "the four best
musicians in one band" Second I think Chris is the best rock
vocalist, point blank. With Bono, and Layne Staley coming in a
extremely close second. Third of all Matt and Lars Ulrich is not
in his league John Bonham is, but I never heard Bonham play jesus
christ pose, or any jazz music. Matt drums for a "advant garde"
Jazz trumpeter in Seattle. He can can play the hell out of damn
near anything. Secondly When you have guitar talent into the
fucking stratosphere like Tom Morello , Jimmy and Kim there is no
telling who is better. But they all have they're own style, i
don't think anyone can rip the chords of darkness from the depths
of hades, on songs like Beyond the Wheel better than Kim. But I
don't see Kim doing some of Tom Morello's Guitar tricks. Secondly
I only liked McCready's guitar playing on Mad Season's Album. But
I don't think he's in Kim, Tom and Jimmy's League. So in the
future when you critisise what I say please remember not to
construe my words. I never said the guy's in Soundgarden were the
4 best Musicians in the world. I said the the were most uniquely
talented Musicians in the same band. They may be guys better in
one aspect or 2 but not in the same band. Lastly don't ever call
me dear, thats a privelege reserved for my Mother and my
            Girlfriend.
                            Clown With Bazooka.

P.S. With all the flaming on this list, I think that we should all
have the prefix with flamethrower after our names. Clown With
Flamethrower, MoonDruid with Flamethrower, Blind Dog with
Flamethrower, Little Joe With Flamethrower, Jamie with
Flamethrower, etc etc.. you get the point.

Subject: How I got into SG

Hey,
Here's my 'How I got into SG story'. I was a sophmore at Rutgers University. I
guess it was around '89 but I'm not sure. I lived in the dorms. One of my
newer friends said that he had something that I had to listen to. He said
"These guys are the next Led Zeppelin". So I checked it out. It was an
Ultramega OK cassette. I thought it was good but... sometime later we found
out that Soundgarden was playing a FREE show at the NYU Student Center (Loeb
Student Center?) so we went. WOW. Great big crowd squashed into this small
room. everyone jammed together but totally mellow. I was used to anthrax and
overkill shows where dudes climb on your head. I was wasted and lovin it! It
was one of the best crowd scenes ever and still is to this day. Anyway, at the
end of the show Chris Cornell bashed a hole in the student center wall with
his mic stand. He had it upside down and was just bashin this huge hole in the
wall! It was great! [I once saw a Kim Thayil quote in the East Coast Rocker
that said they generally like to go out and break something that isn't
theirs!] Then some roadies or managers or something came on stage and led the
band off. They were like breaking everything and were too dazed or something
to stop. That was all it took. Been Hooked ever since. I'm not even sure who
was playing bass at that time! (anyone have any ideas? Jason Everman?) Just
recounting the story has really wound me up! Peace!

Rockenfield and Lee are talented players, you gotta admit, even if
you don't like their style, or the music they play (plus the Crue are
no longer hair rock and Queensryche never were). A drummers'
magazine, the name of which I can't remember, classified Lee superior
to Lars Ulrich and that says much to me. Rockenfield and Lee both fit
in their bands perfectly, and that's what counts, eh?

Tris Imbodden and Chris Frazier did an amazing job on Steve Vai's
"Passion And Warfare". If you haven't checked it out yet, go for it.

Err... Did I say a word about Soundgarden? (Well, there it was.)

Subject: to continue the thread....

Well, since everybody is doing there "how I got into soundgarden" stories
I figured I'd waste some people's disc space and tell you my story.

<September, 1989>

A friend of mine mentioned that Robert Plant (my idol at the time) spoke
highly of a band called Soundgarden during some magazine article. Mr. Plant
mentioned that he really enjoyed the singer of Soundgarden. So I figured if
Mr. Plant liked this band I'd never heard of...I'd give it a listen. I went
down to the local record store one day just to look around and take a look
at the CD cover. There it was....In the "No Risk" section of the record
store for $11.98 CD. The album cover really caught my attention. There was
Chris in the midst of a full "hair shot" with those blurred images
everywhere. (Classic Charles Peterson photography). Notice those open beer
bottles in the lower left of the cover. I believe one of them is Beck's.
I didn't have any money at the time...but I figured I'd buy it soon.
Well, during my
farewell trip to Ohio University (where I was a small time college radio dj)
to pick up some boxes that I had left behind. I stopped at Schoolkids
Records on Court St. It was also "on sale" there. So I picked it
up...raced over to my friends house and put it in the CD player. I had seen
the video for "Loud Love" on Headbanger's Ball...so I knew what I was
getting into...First song: "Ugly Truth"....The drum part sounds so much
like Led Zep's "When the Levee Breaks"! But it wasn't stealing Zep's sound
(like the band Kingdom Come and a whole bunch of other shitty metal bands in
the late 80's)...it was modifying it and taking it to another level. Then
that Voice! I'm a sucker for anyone that can hit the high notes with any
control. I was totally blown away by the "scream" and the control!

"If you were mine to give - I might throw it away"

I listened to it in its entirely and figured there were 5-6 great songs on
it. but they reminded me so much of black sabbath and the cult that I
didn't give it a proper listen. I just listened to the same songs (Ugly
Truth, Hands all Over, Loud Love, Gun, I Awake) for the next two years. I
thought they were a great up and coming band...but I wasn't a 100% fan. I
was more into Alice in Chains, Nirvana (yup, I heard Bleach before
Nevermind was ever released), Mother Love Bone and Mudhoney.
Then came the day in 1991 that I'll never forget. I didn't have any money
at the time...but a friend went out and purchased Badmotorfinger the day it
was released. He was going somewhere for a couple days...so I asked if I
could borrow Badmofi to give it a listen. I was overwhelmed. I listened to
Badmofi 18! times (in its entirety) in 4 days! I was hooked on Jesus Christ
Pose! (and every other song on the disc.) It was an update of the Byrds "8
Miles High" done 90's style. I've never heard anyone else make the
comparison between the two songs...but they are similar. The title of the
first 2:00 of JCP should of been "Alex descends into Hell for a bottle of
milk" (a prize to anyone that can figure out which movie/score reference I'm
referring to). The next week I went out and purchased Badmofi (on sale of
course) along with a special bonus....I finally picked up Nirvana's
Nevermind that day (It was on sale also in the "No Risk" section for
$10.88)....Since I live in a relatively rural area which is so backwards
musically its sort of sick....anyway...nobody had heard of Nirvana before or
actually bought the CD...So I was able to purchase one of the first 40,000
CD copies without the song (Endless, Nameless) a full month after it's
initial release date.

Next up: my first SG concert experience.

People, People, People!

Let start a new topic - something about Soundgarden. Lets try this on:

You have the wonderful opportunity to ask one - JUST ONE - question to our
boys. Now you may ask this question to an individual or to the band as a
whole. Wait -- don't go off half cocked, lets have some good in-depth
question. If you have looked at the Cornell interview (thanks to Justin) on
the best Web Page (Seth - yours is still the best), you know he doesn't like to
be asked about the meaning of a songs. So, ya gotta come up with something
better.

I expect good things from: Seth, CWB, Carolyn (MF could that also stand for
My Friend ), EJFRY (soon to be star), The Meter Man (my savor), Little Joe,
Avatar, Stacy, Jovica, Blind (Justin) Dog, Moon (SP) Druid, Dark Man (you know
who you are) and all the rest of the SG freaks.

BTW: I bet you people think I must not have a life, I'm always out here. No,
it's just that my mail server goes on line from 6:00am till I leave, usually
around 6:00pm. It's in my face all day.

Here's a good one for you, Jamie. Matt is a right handed drummer. Why,
then, does he opt to play the slower, thicker songs (end of Rusty Cage,
Slaves & Bulldozers, etc.) with his LEFT hand on the hi-hat? That's a
place usually reserved for your primary hand (in "proper" drumming
technique, of course). It took me quite a while to learn how to do it. I
think it lets you keep a straighter tempo and avoid the tendency to rush.
I'd just like to know what Mr. Cameron thinks. Was that OK?

P.S.--Blind Dog, did you catch him doing that when you saw them Down Under?

Hi list!

Guess what just popped into the old college mailbox this afternoon. A
copy of SG's performance at this years Reading Festival! Can everyone
scream YES!

Before I give you a full review of the show here's a teaser cause I'm
listening to it as I type...

1st song: another instrumental show opener. It isnt night surf. Maybe
it's Night Surf II? :-)

Then they open up with "Searching with my good eye closed". Chris's voice
is amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No damage that I can tell...or no use of more
vocal effects.

then it's "Drown Me" (reworked a little differently than the original or
last years tour version)

Next it's "Spoonman"....Great version reworked a little in the middle.

I'm currently listening to My Wave......I detect some sort of a voice box
(vocal effect) in the mix. Someone get Chris a clorets.

Subject: OK OK, My turn.

OK, so Ive been watching these proceedings for a week now and Im
ready to talk and from what Ive seen Id better do it quick before someone
decides theyve had enough of the "how I got into Soundgarden" story. I
cant beat the whole in the wall story. Cant even come close. But here goes...

It was a dark and dreary afternoon...
I was watching Much Music's Power Hour (No, I didnt grow up on MTV, but it
is the pathetic equivalent, I guess. I assume the Power Hour is much the
same as the Headbanger's Ball Ive seen mentioned. My only experience
with MTV was on New Year's day from a Florida Hotel Room while they
played that old Young MC song every few minutes and replayed the entire
countdown from the night before. I assume MTV can get better than this
[?] so I wont pass judgement.)

Anyway, my first experience with Soundgarden, (ok so it was just Chris
Cornell who actually caught my eye), was on the Power Hour when they were
showing Loud Love for the first time and Soundgarden was announced as
"a new band from a city in the States, just south of Vancouver". The sound
as well as the video stood out from all of the other ones theyd been
playing, but I wasnt hooked. In fact, it never even occured to me that one
might be able to purchase this CD. Dont know why not, but it would have
cost a fortune anyway, being an import.

A little later I see the Hunger Strike video, and I think gee... that guy
looks familiar. Still no light bulbs above my head.

Well, time passes and passes and I forget all about the band from some
city just south of Vancouver. Next thing I know, Lollapalooza (2) shows
up in town and who's on the bill but a COUPLE of bands from just south of
Vancouver. (Seattle was still just a city.) I bought "Ten" immediately and
so the next logical step was to buy Temple of the Dog. (Didnt even know
Hunger Strike was on it.--Yes, I am that slow. Just thought it was Pearl
Jam.)

So now it's 1992 and off to University I go and what to my wandering eyes
should appear, but a dubbed copy of Badmotorfinger lying in the student
lounge. "Hey", I said innocently, "Soundgarden...I think I know that
name. Didnt they play on that Pearl Jam album?"

Well, that is how it started and many moons later I am divulging my
secret (my secret stupidity) to a bunch of strangers.
As much as I havent been paying much attention to PJ lately, I do owe most
of my Soundgarden enlightenment to them. Thank You Pearl Jam for giving
me something else to listen to instead of yourselves.

And by the way, later that year I bought Ultramega OK etc. (all the major
ones) and I want to know how the heck you guys could get away with paying
less than $15.00 for a CD when I had to shell out $28.00
for a tape of Ultramega OK, A TAPE for crying out loud.
Geeze. That's devotion.

Sorry that was so long. It's been building up for a while.

Oh man our boys can still ROCK! What a concert! Here's the set list:

Intro: Night Surf II?
Searching with my good eye closed
Drown Me
Spoonman
My Wave
Drawing Flies
I'm here to (FUCK you up)
Fell on Black Days
Mailman
Head Down
Superunknown
Rusty Cage
Waiting for the sun
Black Hole Sun
Kristin?
Hands all Over

Encores:
4th of July
Kickstand
I Want You (She's so Heavy DIRGE)

Let's start from the beginning:

1. The introduction was an instrumental very, very similar to Night Surf
    last year's concert opening music.

2. Searching with My Good Eye Closed - GREAT! Chris's voice is outstanding.

3. Drown Me - slightly different music mix

4. Spoonman - Not Bad! different mix in the middle

5. My Wave - The worst performance of the show. chris's voice just dies
on some of the high notes/screams. I'm being highly critical...so
some of you might not notice it.

6. Drawing Flies - Chris rebounds pretty nicely. The vocal work is
    outstanding!

7. I'm here to (FUCK you up) - a new song. Easily the fastest thing SG
has ever done. I cant make out the words too well except for the words
fuck and shit. So the Beavis and Butthead crowd should like this. The
chorus is kinda catchy in a juvenille way. I'll say... "I'm here to"
everyone else scream "FUCK YOU UP"

8. Fell on Black Days - WAY better!!!!! than the video version of last year.

9. Mailman - Chris says "This is a song about the good kill". Great
    version.

10. Head Down - Chris introduced this song by saying "This song is always
    my favorite". Another great version.

11. Superunknown - GREAT! a ton'o'reverb though.

12. Rusty Cage - here come those nasty vocal effects to help chris hit
the high notes. All in all...a better version than last years.

13. Waiting for the Sun - Chris introduces this song as: "This is a
church song". This is a cover of a song originally done by the seminal
60's band the Doors. A very faithful cover. I LIKE it. It also showed
the bands sence of humor because the next song is:

14. Black Hole Sun - The crowd finally wakes up during this song.

15. Kristin

You WILL be talking about the song Kristin (I think that's what its called)
when the new album is released. From what I can make out (I will be
giving this song repeated listenings) this song is about an abusive
relationship. Here's some sample lyrics:

"Tell me what I want to hear"

You cant do anything without me
you cant do anything without me
you're gonna die without me
you're gonna die without me

The music and lyrics are VERY DARK, let me repeat...VERY DARK! Musically
I would say it's a cross between Tdittl, limo wreck and mailman. There
will not be any cries of sell out after you hear this song!

I 'll work on the lyrics and get back to the list.

16. Hands all Over - a WAY better version than the one I heard last
year. Included in this years version is a snippet of lyrics from Slaves
and Bulldozer's during the song's slow part. They ended the set with
    this song....then the encores:

17. 4th of July - This song WAS BRILLIANT! They sped the tempo up from
the originals Melvin's influenced Sludge Rock. The band hit on all
cylinders during this song. GREAT!!, GREAT!! GREAT!!

18. Kickstand - Very GOOD!

19. I Want You (She's so Heavy Dirge) - They ended the performance with a
music only rendition of the Beatles (particularly John Lennon's) classic
from Abbey Road. This goes on for 3 minutes then a cloud of feedback and
noise starts to erupt. Chris is screaming that "..something sucks"
towards the end (note I cant make out exactly what yet). The show ends in
a wave of feedback. Probably with chris emitting sounds from his guitar
on the amp's.

Hi all. Yeah, it's that bloody Carolyn again. I'm sick of working (but not
even work can get me out of this good mood I'm in) so decided to take time
out to tell you all that my CD club must have ESP.

After writing yesterday about how/why I got into Soundgarden, and mentioning
that I was waiting on Badmotorfinger to be sent to me, I got home to find
seven CDs I'd ordered, one of them being bmf! Seven new CDs! I've never
bought that many at once. I was in music heaven and the stereo copped a
flogging. You can probably guess which one I listened to first. For some
reason Rusty Cage grabbed my attention straight away. I don't know whether
it's just because that was the first song, or because of the great start to
it, but I reckon it's really cool. Music at the start of songs is important
to me - if there's a good intro I'll usually like the rest of it. ('Let me
Drown' on Superunknown also has a well-planned ? beginning that got my
attention on the start of that album too).

So there you go. Now I just have to listen to the rest of the songs a bit
more closely, and my good mood will continue......................

if you're really interested in getting a copy...I'll see if I can
get some people's books signed by mr. peterson himself (no promises).

3. The new edition of Sub Pop 200 is to be released next tuesday.
Includes the SG song "SUB POP rock city". From what I understand there
will be a cool "old school" picture of mr. cornell included in the new

Ditto to that. Keep 'em rolling in, everyone! I'm starting to feel like
I'm getting to know you all just that little bit more..................

Oh, and someone wrote that they consider themselves "a true soundgarden fan"
because they knew the band before anyone else did (or something to that
effect). Well, I'm a fan too (a true one, I suppose? - it's true that I do
like soundgarden!), but who gives a shit when you first got into a band?
Being a true fan or not is just bullshit. It's often just a matter of luck
to "discover" a band if they don't happen to have hit
singles..............the person who wrote said she was given 3 Soundgarden
CDs for her birthday - so if she'd never got that gift she probably wouldn't
be a fan now. Like if I never hurt my knee I probably wouldn't be a fan
now. It's all just fate, mate! :-)

Now I don't even know what point I was trying to make up there. This was
supposed to be a two-line message. Oh well {sigh} I'll leave that paragraph
in because I know someone out there will agree with my way of thinking!

Bye ~
Carolyn the My Friend.....?

PS: Jamie: I'm THINKING of a question to ask the band..................but
have patience! You've put the pressure on us, when you actually specified
those of us you expected answers from - THE CHALLENGE IS ON, GUYS, COME ON!!
{Well done, Back Door Man, for getting the ball rolling}

PPS: Also to Jamie: I think the Is Susan hot? question was done in fun -
not meant to be taken seriously. I'm sure Brian wasn't wanting to judge
books by covers. After all, we on this list can ONLY judge each other by
the book since we can't see any covers............which is probably not a
bad thing!

PPPS: So much for being a two-line message. My grandpa always tells me I
have Verbal Diarrhoea so I guess that's the same when I write. :-( Sorrrrrry.

i am now in love with the Rainbow Butt Monkeys and the Odds, two bands i

an indie spotlight almost everyday and one video from an indie spotlight

RSVP usually showed videos you wouldn't see on MTV. The sloppy style of
production also added to this station's appeal because i had just
