Even if Soundgarden DIDN't kick the Chilli Peppers' ass as a band,(which
of course they do in every department), at least they don't resort
to gimmicks like walking around with their dicks in socks to sell records.

I was just wondering if anyone out there has ever heard the acoustic
version of Like Suicide that Chris Cornell does? It's on the bootleg
"Ultramegaunknown" and i also think it's on the soundtrack to "SFW". I
just want other people's opinion on it because i think it's one of the
greatest pieces of music I have ever heard.

P.S. who else thinks Soundgarden should come out with some
acoustic/unplugged type of stuff?

Yes, I have the SFW CD, and I like this version of Suicide. Wouldn't it be
interesting to see SG do the unplugged thing. Don't lose it now - I know SG
is a power driven band, they would need a straight jacket for Ben. I just said
wouldn't it be interesting. They could do Fell on Black Days as one of the
numbers. Just think it would be great to hear Chris vocals and the rest of the
guys without the outside distraction (just once). God I feel like I'm walking
on thin ice by even thinking this.

How about it, what other songs do you feel the guys could do in the unplugged
vein?

Sachin, Being the trying Soundgarden collector that i am, i have of
course heard the acoustic version of like suicide. When i listened to
that song originally, i thought that it was a great song made possible
only by the combination of all the instruments involved, but then i heard
Chris Cornell's solo version. I don't know if Soundgarden should come
out with acoustic stuff, cuz i'm not sure Kim Thayil knows what an
acoustic guitar is. But Chris Cornell's damn good at it. -j

Sachin,
Regarding your comment concerning Soundgarden doing acoustic stuff, I
think it would definitely be interesting. I really liked Like suicide
acoustic, and seasons. If they did the unplugged thing they might have to
put ben in a straight jacket, I just cannot see Chris staying seated in a
chair during a show for any length of time. Fell on Black days would
definitely sound cool acoustic. Mind Riot perhaps, and somewhere adn
searching with my good eyes closed. Spoonman would sound cool acoustic,
theres a demo of it on the movies singles. Does anyone know if it is
available on a bootleg? The thing is unplugged is small intimate social
thing that I don't see soundgarden doing. They are all anti-social, hell
they picked ben as a bassist because he had no friends. I can't see Kim
with an acoustic Guitar, Or Matt playing the drums softly. Besides songs
like Limo Wreck and Fourth Of July would lose a lot acoustically. I can't
see it. I can see 1 or 2 acoustic songs now and then. But not a whole
    shows worth.

I'll agree with you there. You're right. I also think it's one of the
greatest pieces. We all know how well Cornell can sing and it shows up
more on the acoustic version. I don't know...I can't think of anything
really intelligent to say about it. It's just really good.
I also like "Seasons" off of the "Singles" soundtrack. If anyone out
there knows of any other acoustic pieces, please share them with me. Thanks.

Songs that could be done Unplugged

Seasons - "Single" CD
My Wave

Toybox - "on the Flower EP"
Incessant Mace
Girl U Want "Fell on Black Days singles"
acoustic version of "Fopp" be fun

Chris Cornell was recording called "Songs for Ozzy" I discovered Black

major influence on Kim Thayil's riffing. Two other questions, if anyone
knows the answers. Before Matt, when it was just Kim, Hiro Yamamato, and
Chris doing drums and vocals, did Soundgarden record anything as that
three piece? Also i have a desperate need to know who did the original
"Smokestack Lightining"? That song and "Incessant Mace" can please even
people who don't listen to any form of rock music. -j

Subject: GREAT DRUMMERS

There's been a lot of discussion about Matt lately so i figured i'd replace my
typical rant by making a summarized list of great drummers in MUSIC.

** MATT CAMERON from Soundgarden: of course he is tops in my book. "Jesus
Christ Pose" is just on of the songs that he kicks ass on."Gun" is another song
that shows off his skills of being a great drummer, but also shows he can do
what a drummer is supposed to do, keep the beat.

** JOHN BOHNAM from Led Zeppelin: His nickname was the God of Thunder. What
else do you need?

** SEAN KINNEY from Alice in Chains: Sean doesn't get a lot of attention
because Layne and Jerry are usually the receivers. Seans diverse skills have
been shown both in the metal and acoustical relms of AiC's music. On "Jar of
Flies", he showed that he could make a drum kit sound like a bunch of cymbals.
And he did the same thing on "Dirt". But he also showed great talent on
"Sickman" and his quickness on "Would". For big AiC fans, you know Sean for his
continuous cymbal strikes, so we should call him Cymbal Man.

** Chris Vrenna from Nine Inch Nails: i guess he's pretty good. Anybody that
can play that fast live deserves to be mentioned.

** Charlie Watts from The Rolling Stones: this guy has class and is a pure
drummer.

** Danny Carey from TOOL: this guy is just fuckin awesome. If you've ever heard
TOOL live, he sounds like he's in the studio. Great precision and cymbal work.

** Chad Gracey from Live: This guy is young and awesome. For an example of his
best work, try "White, Discussion" from "Throwing Copper".

well, there it is. Hope I inspired some thought,

THE GREAT ONE,

From: jsimpson@mail03.mitre.org (Jamesetta Simpson)

I have been sitting here all day working on this huge, stupid program, that one
lousy variable will not work. I'm fighting a head cold (reward for last
weekend). I have to finish a job by Monday (could work from home - if my modem
was working). So I will be here most of the weekend. I forgot my CD Player so
I must listen to the radio and they haven't play one SG song yet today. To top
that today is dress down day, silly me put a STP tee on - I don't even have the
warmth of my Kickstand tee.

The only bright spots have come via e-mail and the wonderful SG Mailing list.
My life is not completely in the toilet yet.

THANKS -Most of the mail you guys send out is so strange, funny, interesting,
and just what the doctor ordered. Keep them coming (A glass of wine wouldn't
hurt either).

Jamie
Hope your weekend is better than mine!!!!!!!!!

What about Neil Peart? I've seen him live a couple of times, and he's played
about the most awe inspiring solos I've ever heard during YYZ. I mean, the
man can play live anything Trent Reznor can lay down with a drum machine!
Speed, power, vision... What else can you ask for?

(I guess I'm a pretty big Rush fan.)

Hey, if any of you who are in bands ever play near the Washington, D.C. lets me
know. In fact if any of you who play in bands do public performance you should
clue us in. What better support then one of us.

Who knows someday we can say - we knew you when.......

Yes, it is 3:30pm and I have been here since 6:00am - and the only thing I have
had to eat was a cup of soup (I get mean and strange when I don't get food).
Don't be shocked by any thing I may post over the next few hours.

Youve forgotton many many worthy drummers, and added some on your list
that arent so great, like the Rolling Stones character and NIN buttfuck
and the guy from Live. There are WAY better drummers out there, way
better. I must agree with the choices of Bonham, Cameron, and Danny
Carey. My boy Herb aint no slouch behind the kit, and you cant leave
Stewart Copland off any any list when it comes to great drummers.

why do people care what the lyrics mean??? not everyone listens to songs
just for the music, have you ever sung a song and not know what the hell
you're singing about? for all you know you could be singing about having
anal sex with a farm animal
(course we know sg doesn't write songs about that) but alot of songs have
hidden meanings and that helps people understand where the artist is coming
from.

TO Matilda Dahlqvist

What the fuck is talk like saying that SG is shit coming from ???!!?!? If you want to say things
that are to be constued as jacked up , there is a nice Rush Limbaugh page somewhere ...

TO Clown

I agree with you , Blind Dog and the others . If a man ' s opinion does not matter when he does
something , then why would he do it . Perhaps Ms. Myrick needs to go and watch mall of the Police
Academy movies while listening to Ace of Base . Nahhh . She might like it .

To All
Perhaps we should meet somewhere so we can have sort of a Woodstock
sort of thing . We get all the bands that we want to play . You could
write to the list administator and then voice your opinion . The only
flaw in this plan is that we gotta get somebody to pay for it .

TO Anyone who needs any bootleg cd .
Go to Austin , Texas and do some supersleuthing . They have
all everything that is ever made in music from Dead to U2 . Check it
out . The reason they have it all is because thay have a lot of
college students there and if the stores do not have their cd , then
the students would poison the public against the store . San Antonio
is also a good place .

To anyone who is not talking about SG
Soudgarden is a great band . If you would like I could send
you some of their stuff in a 2 for 1 tape trade . E-mail me at :
williaaj@micro.wcmo.edu so we can get you converted .

I ALWAYS figured that Hiro did...but then I started to doubt myself. Chris
does Acid now and then, to the best of my knowledge...Kim, don't know,
neither do I with Matt. Seriously, though...compared to other bands, like the
Red Hot Chili Peppers, Soundgarden seems to be on the lower end of substance
abuse.

When I heard Nirvana was doing unplugged, I thought it was gonna suck. I
bought it anyway, however and was surprised to find that it was one of
the best albums I've heard in a long time... After hearing stuff like In
Utero, one could never imagine Nirvana doing Unplugged. If Nirvana can do
this well, Soundgarden Unplugged should rock!!
