Yep, that sounds right.. I thought it was about nuclear armageddon, but
I never associated it with Hiroshima. Thanks for the brilliant flash of

I read in an interview in a magazine where CC said that 4th of July was
about an acid trip he was on. I could quote it if you ask. Though the
Nuclear Holocaust idea sounds a lot better.

re MTV playing soundgarden vids - HELLO! Where were you last summer?? MTV
played Black Hole Sun TO DEATH. IT was like everyother song! And yes, it
was a number one hit - early in the summer, 1994.

BTW, anybody ever seen the band Inflatable Soule? Chris's brother Peter is
the frontman, and two Cornell sisters, Katy and Suzy, sing back up. It is
nothing like SG, though Peter resembles his brother...

Alright, I Clown with Bazooka have decided that we should just abandon
this whole fourth of July analysis, perhaps we should pick up another song
Limo Wreck anyone?, Room A Thousand Years Wide? In the future howver I
think that we should just limit these analysis to the exchange of idea's
not dwell on them for weeks. Because as I can see by the above example
only the artist really knows what the songs is about. So perhaps we should
focus on the appreciation of the lyrics themselves and what the song means
to us, And looking at the themes within the songs. This whole cold sun
thing has gotten ridiculous, I am receiving replies to the original
message that was sent weeks Ago so lets just terminate the whole thing.

Gee, we're just experimenting with our creative interpretation of the
lyrics and comparing them with each other... no need to get psycho,
it's better than the chain letters and unsibscribe messages!!!

Limo Wreck sounds like it's pretty much about the end of the world (or
the end of SOMETHING, anyway...) I'll go listen to it lots of times, have
a think and post the results of my meditations.

I think there is another atomic theme during the song "Fopp (Dub)". During the
song, there is talk about "odor of scorched flesh permeated the air" and some
woman with a Japanese name is talking. Anybody know where this is from?

All anyone has to do to find out is to see if the members of the band have
publishing companies for their music. Or if it says on the album jacket
that all the songs are copyrighted and published by the record company.

I don't hate the band members personally however I rather dislike thier
music. Not being a fan of Pearl Jam is harldy popular. If it was people
would not try to talk me into being a fan everytime I say I cannot stand
them like I'm insane or something.

I personally think that Limo Wreck is about people putting there faith in
false idols, who are just as suceptible to the everyday problems we all
face and blaming those idols for when things go wrong even though they are
not responsible. Because control of those things belongs to a higher
power. ie "Building the towers belongs to the sky when the whole thing
comes crashing down don't ask me why" Secondly by putting all your faith
in false idols will lead to your downfall "I'm the wreck of you I'm the
death of you all" I just got finished listening to the album all the way
through and thats my take on limo Wreck. I welcome everyone to write back
and tell me how they interpret it. But please no more the sun is not cold
    messages.

Subject: who here owns a limo?

the song limo wreck is about the entire world order crashing
down, mostly in the vein of new damage from badmotorfinger.

I read an interview where chris was describing why he wrote it.
the band were travelling down the freeway in what was probably some old
beat-up car, and a big limo drove past them. chris was wondering about
the limo and its big tinted windows, and what the people riding in the
back seat thought of themselves.

then he went on about seeing car pileups, and how you never see
a limo involved. so the logical conclusion :) was to write a song railing
against the establishment and their assumption of invulnerability and
immortality, and how they too could end up as a piece of wrecked metal on
the side of the expressway. just another tale of death and destruction,
I guess.

...under the red break (brake?) of the lights...
...when the whole thing blows away, I won't pretend...

ps.	let me drown is about crawling back into the womb to die. did
chris write this after hearing nirvana's in utero? :)

Blind Dog,
I read that chris cornell interview also, I remember him saying something
about how it would be really cool to see a bunch on Limos smashed together
and burning on the side of the highway, because people don't realize that
just because they or people they see are in a limo/rich
doesn't mean that they are not just as suceptible to death by car accidents,
earthquakes and drive by shootings. That we are just people with the same
vulnerabilities. Hence my analysis on the belief in false idols/people in
power/celbrities. "Swallowing rivers belongs to the sea, when the whole thing
washes way don't run to me" However I agree with you totally on your idea of
the world order crashing down. I just think my analysis is just another facet
of that. I wonder does chris really think the wreck is going down and is
trying to tell us something? Does he know something we don't?

How did this turn into ANOTHER discussion about Pearl Jam? As far as
royalities and contracts and "rushed" albums...

I have to say, I really don't think that PJ is in need of a "quick

Over the weekend I spent a lot of time driving in my car on my own both
before dawn & after dusk & each time I did so I listened to Superunknown.
In particular Limo Wreck sounds great up loud and the dark atmosphere all
around me as I drove made it all eerie & just, I dunno, perfect! Then I
checked my mail this morning to see HEAPS of stuff on alternative music and
song themes, and Limo Wreck was even mentioned. Couldn't let this go by
without saying I really like our list & the fact that we all seem to
interpret song lyrics differently.

Just remember - it's good to have different ideas & interesting when someone
sheds new light on songs. No one is right & no one is wrong!

I'll certainly listen to Limo Wreck this arvo in my car when I knock off
work (hanging out for knock-off time again, especially being a Monday), with
a new insight.......................

Oh yeah, and while I'm at it:

1. Jackhammer made some good points in his "Alternate Rant" message.

2. Greg Bensimon also made some good points even though it was too early in
the morning for him.

3. Someone (sorry, can't remember who) suggested not listening to the radio
anymore. I know why they said this, but agree with Clown, who suggested
that if you can find a good station (I suggest Triple J for Aussies) then
that's the way to find out about new music - but I also suggest good record
stores cos then at least you can find out about new music that you actually
like and not just the stuff some radio DJ likes.

4. Poor Clown wrote I will be so glad when alternative isn't trendy
anymore. {my thoughts exactly, Clown}. Although we know we're not allowed
to use that term anymore - just read all the rants & raves we got on the
subject!

5. Avatar puts it all in a nutshell - "we're just experimenting with our
creative interpretation of the lyrics and comparing them with each other".
What fun!
