This is my opinion:
1st Metallica (3 great albums from 5 is good ratio)
2nd Soundgarden (2 great albums from 4 is pretty good, they may overtake
after next album)
3rd Led Zeppelin (only have compilation so harder to judge against
current bands, certainly all of them were great musicians, great
diversity etc.

Louder Than Love. Killer album. Hiro rocked and wrote some great music.
My favorite song though is "Hands All Over", a Chris Cornell/Kim Thayil
tune. Love the pro-earth message. Kim carved out a nice riff and beautiful
melodies that are great to play on the guitar. Does anybody else dig the
Indian (dont't know how else to describe it) influence Kim injects into this
song? Particularly the melody and (oh shit we just had and earthquake!!
10:17 p.m., Magnitude 3.1,3 miles NE of Hemet, Southern California. That's
where I'm at! :-@) counter-melodies.

A few of my unsolved mysteries: Who is Kevin and who is Kevin's Mom? Who
took the hard road? What are they full on (besides Kevin's Mom)? Answers
please.

Even thugh I promoted Hiro doesn't mean I dont't think Ben Shepherd isn't
one of the most intelligent musicians around. And a kick-ass bassist to boot.

Hi everyone!

Soundgarden has had two bass players that I know of (please bear in mind
that I have only Superunknown and Badmotorfinger) Hiro Yamamoto and Ben
Shepherd.

What are people's thoughts on these two bass players? How do their styles
compare? Which is the better of the two (in your humble opinions)? When was
the transition between these two players, and has it had a significant
effect on Soundgarden?

Answers really appreciated!

soundgarden, to my memory, swapped bass players a little while
after they recorded louder than love. there was enough of an interval
for jason everman to make his foul presence known during the video clips
for hands all over and loud love. they must have gotten tired of him
real quick :)

I don't know who is better. I like soundgarden as they are now,
so maybe it's better that hiro didn't stay on. I do like what he brought
to the band, in terms of songwriting and stuff, but I think that ben has
had an enormous influence in the direction the band has taken.

as to who is the better bass guitarist, that is up to the bass
players of the list. for songwriting...I can't make up my mind. hiro
wrote some cool stuff on their earlier albums, and ben had that shocker
(half). but ben has written some good tunes too, so I guess that I'd
have to vote for ben.

	feel free to disagree :)

Just in case anybody was wondering, Smokestack Lightning from
Ultramega OK is a cover of the original done by the Yardbirds. However,
Soundgarden's version sounds slightly different than the original.
Also, anybody who doesn't have Screaming Life/Fopp, Ultramega OK, or
Louder than Love should GET IT! They are all excellent albums. IMHO, no
Soundgarden fan should be without them.
Does anybody know what Hiro Yamamoto is doing now? Is he in a band?

With all this talk about SG bass players, I have a few question's about
Ben's offshoot band, Hater. Does anyone know if any singles w/ b-sides
were released when the record came out? Do you know where I can get them
now? Will there be another album? Did they / will they tour?

Also, on Hiro: Nowadays, he plays bass for a band called Truly (this has
already been mentioned). They have a new record out on Capitol, called
"Fast Stories...From Kid Coma". Cool, spacy guitar rock. Alot of
jamming. It hasn't really grown on me yet, but it's interesting. I
think I might love it as time passes. Mark Pickerel (ex-Screaming Trees
drummer) and Robert Roth (vocals/guitar) are also in the band.
Alternative Press recently gave the album a great review.

Oh, and people, PLEASE!!!! Let's get some intelligent threads going.
If that's impossible, maybe there's no need for this mailing list.

Take care,

I noticed that the lyrics for Screaming Life/Fopp at the Soundgarden web site
don't contain lyrics for the song Swallow My Pride. So, I decided to give it a
shot.

SWALLOW MY PRIDE

She looked at me with dignity
She said there's something you gotta see
Even though this country's in it for ?
This nation is prouder than ever before
Yeah there's a spirit in the air
We're more American than anyone
?
?

Now I wouldn't mind
If you swallow my pride
Make me feel alright, yeah now, deep inside
Feel alright

All the warmth in her heart
Couldn't keep my blood from running cold
?
?
I tried to tell her a thousand times
But the little girl didn't understand

Now I wouldn't mind
If you swallow my pride
Make me feel alright, yeah now, deep inside
Feel alright

PS-This is my first time transcribing lyrics, and as you can see, I did a
shitty job. So please help me by trying to figure out the ones with a question
mark.

Highly unlikely....don't crowd my mailbox like that ;-)

Yer not....hypothetical, my friend. See, I can see some of them getting
together, but not Corgan...the kids a cry-baby and a freak. I can't see
ANYONE getting along with Lars... I would have to say that Chris, Cantrell,
Brian May, Stone, and Les would do it, but as far as drummers go, that's a
tough question. Lars is the god of thrash, is he the god of alternative?
Nope.

?	BIG QUESTION!!! Why Lars Ulrich???? Lars by far is the worst
>drummer that any of the other guys are currently playing with. I once
Why Lars? Lars is an exceptional drummer that is able to control the tempo of
an entire band while still doing fills and solos. If you would, throw in
...And Justice For All and just listen to the opening of the song when Lars
just kicks in...you'll see why he's the drummer.
>There is no such thing as the Ultimate band. You can't please

Well...it's in the eye of the beholder. Back a few years ago, the Grammy
committe organized a bunch of people, Shela (Sheena?) E, people like
that....they had a giant organization of musicians. It was a band that
pleased the ears of Jazz listeners, Pop enjoyers, Rock enthusiasts, and more.
Yes, it was the ultimate band for the committe, and the ultimate band for
some. This is the Ultimate band for me, and possibly the ultimate band for
one or twelve thousand other people.

Intresting thing about the band (unrelated, but intresting) when I listen to

I like the darker music too...the stuff that really comes out in New Damage
and Holy Water.

Those are some great songs. Day I tried to live is good, IMHO, but Limo Wreck
is the best song on there. Superunknown is such an angry album (if I may use
angry) and it has so much emotion running through it.

Definitely. If not just to finish off the discog, to listen to it all.
Although, I must say that I like FOPP and the trippy stuff too...but what
exactly DOES FOPP stand for or mean?

Soundgarden, by far they have the best singer of all time, incredible
creativity and drums, and a kickin bass with majestic guitars.

Hi all,

I've got a rare Mudhoney promo CD I'm looking to sell or trade. I
thought some of you may be interested. It's an eight song live recording
from Feb 1993. All unreleased recordings, used to promote their tour for
the "Piece of Cake" album.

Songs: Suck You Dry * Make it Now * Fashion Forecast * Dead Love *
No End in Sight * You Got It * Stupid Asshole * The Money
        Will Roll Right In

If your interested, send offers. I'm into many bands, if you want to trade.

Does anyone out there know of a MH mailing list?

Thanks
Jeff Rollason

Once I saw Kim Thyle in a drugstore near my house with his girlfriend(I think
she lives in my neighborhood). Any other Soundgarden sightings? Does any-
one else on this list even live in Seattle?

Well, here goes, just some stuff I need to say. First of all, Nirvana sucks.
All of their music is diatonic, and all of them suck as musicians. Kurt
Cobain was a screwed up bastard and it was no surprise he shot himself. Also,
Hole sucks, Courney Love is a stupid bitch who can't sing, and all of their
songs suck. Led Zeppelin is awesome because their music was awesome then and
now, and inspired this whole generation of music. Okay, I got this out of my
system. Anyone who disagrees with me (I'm sure there will be many) e-mail me
at Carl435004@AOL.COM. One last thing-Soundgarden kicks, but they're becoming
mainstreamers. Uh oh! Get off Mtv!

I have to disagree with you about your criticism of nirvana. The music wasn't
the best music in the world, however all the songs had nice melody's, and the
main point of the songs were the lyrics. Secondly you talk about soundgarden
being mainstream when you fall into the courtney love trap of most MTV
viewers. Courtney's music is only vaguely related to Kurts, They got married
nit the bands. If you listened to a song like doll parts or violet you would
se that she is not in fact a stupid bitch, and that there are some quite
intellignet lyrics hidden behind her punk style of music. Punk music is not
meant to be as orchestrated or as complicated as the alternative rock/metal
put out by soundgarden, smashing pumpkins, kings x and the like. Mainstream
acceptance for soundgarden is a function of people liking their music not a
function of them intentionally trying to gain mainstream acceptance. Just
because a large segment of the population like your music does not denote a
intentional attempt to "sell out" Superunknown is a angry dark album that is
not easily accesible to the top 40 kids, this is not pop music in our current
escapist culture. On the subject of Led Zepplin, I do not think
that every band that is out today is a complete Led Zepplin offspring. Black
sabbath was around in that era also. I think that soundgardens main influence
would be like them. To quote Kim "We wanted to do stuff like sabbath without
the parts that suck, but later went in our own direction" Soundgarden is a
unique band that draws on themselves for inspiration not they're record
collection. Secondly since they will be impossible to imitate I vote them the
best band of all times. Chris even said that it would be impossible to
duplicate the diverse and unique offerings each of them bring to the band.
        just my long winded opinion.
