Chances are we don't want you anyway. If you actually read your mail
you'd realise two things...

- - 1. For the past week or two all the people who are interested in this
list have been writing to it and telling schmo's like yourself to send
your unsubscribe messages to the list administrator so as not to clog up
our mailboxes with shit (this is the reason I'm flaming you now)...and

- - 2. There's plenty of cool stuff about Soundgarden on this list, and if
you were actually a fan, you'd realise it.

Subject: Promotional stuff

Hi all,
This is just a fairly meaningless post about some promotional
material of Soundgarden's I saw in a record store near me. There was a
battery operated hand that moved, and had 'Hands All Over' written on it
plus a candle with a christian crucifiction scene on it that said 'Jesus
Christ Pose'. The prices the guy was charging were a bit dubious
though, $100 and $50 respectively (australian dollars). Does anyone else
know about this stuff or anything like it?

I'd have to agree with Seth about UltramegaOK. It's a fine album and
contains some songs that are close to my favourites (Beyond the Wheel,
Flower, Incessant Mace etc.) It's great to be able to go back and listen
to the deep, dark roots of Chris' singing and songwriting. I can listen to
Incessant
Mace over and over and never get sick of it, and Beyond the Wheel.... need
we say more. That's the wonderful thing about the evolution of their music,
it's so diverse that you can never get sick of it.
I will also take issue with anyone who writes off the first two
albums as a learning experience for Chris and his singing. Of course it's
a bit raw, but it wasn't produced and mixed like it is these days. I
can't get enough of that cool dark side of their music, and it's still
what I like most about the band (which is reflected in my love of songs
like Fourth of July, and Limo Wreck etc. etc). I would strongly recommend
to anyone that they should buy the Screaming Life/FOPP ep's. At first I
bought them mainly to complete my Soundgarden discography, but the music
is great. Hunted Down, Hand of God, Nothing to Say and Little Joe are
fine songs.

Louder than Love = a band filled with primal lust
Badmotorfinger = a band finding it place
Superunknow = a band refinded and ready for the long stay

Each album had it's reason and each was the best for it's season.
Hard to pick a fav!!!! But I tend to play Badmotorfinger the most, I like the
raw edge to it.

OK, I went back and played the UltramegaOK tape again, maybe I wasn't really
hearing it. The basic song writing is good. Chris is really pushing it, but
hasn't the control he has in Louder than Love or Badmotorfinger. The best
thing on the tape was Kim, for the first time I really could hear and feel his
talent. I know Kim is a great player and SG would not be as big as they are
now with out him. But until I replayed the UltramegOK did I understand how
much I under estimated him. He really stands out on this album, his playing
gives substance to UltramegaOK .

I still have trouble liking UltramegaOK, for some reason it just leaves me
cold. I guess we just can't like everything!

very interesting :)

Plus anyone heard any of the new stuff over in the usa yet? thats what i
heard SG are up to anyway..recording a new album...that right?

I have been playing drums for about 10 years. I find it to be a great
stress reliever and if anything good comes out of it than that is a
bonus. I have played with several bands but have only toured (mid-west)
and recorded with one. I enjoy playing my own music (I like to switch
styles a lot) but in terms of Soundgarden my favorite song to play is
Little Joe.

Some one mentioned the Trumpet. A friend of mine was at a Jesus
Lizzard show and for some reason he brought his trumpet (he is actually
a very good guitar player). I the middle of the Jesus Lizzard set he
got up on stage and started playing the trumpet. They actually gave
him a mic and he played the rest of the set (between stage dives and
goofy dancing). That was almost two years ago and people are still
talking about it.

Here are a few interesting questions. What style of music are they
going to play? If you were to get these guys together they may just
put out a classical album. How are you going to get all of these EGOs
to play together? Did anyone know that Les Claypool had been turned
down by Metallica for Cliff's spot (sore spot for ol' Les)

BIG QUESTION!!! Why Lars Ulrich???? Lars by far is the worst
drummer that any of the other guys are currently playing with. I once
saw Tim Alexander (Primus) play some Metallica songs at a concert (part
of Les's protest of Metallica) and he made Lars look like a fool. Tim
didn't have to jump up and down like a midget monkey. Matter of fact
he didn't move much at all (sign of a good drummer). Lars lacks
creativity. There is more to drumming than playing fast, hard and 4/4.

There is no such thing as the Ultimate band. You can't please
everyone.

I say Soundgarden, I am not on this list for my health. Besides I did not
like Zeps bluesy phase. I vote Soundgarden because of there diversity,
unique sound, chris's voice, chris's poetic lyrics, the rest of th bands
instrument skills. The large body of wrks they've rpoduced thata not on
there albums. the fact that when someone else in the band writes a song
besides the main song writer it's still a damn good song. Plus they have
never written a song that I hate.

Asking that question on a Soundgarden mailing list? Fair enough - mine's
Faith No More!

As for some more classics along the line of Led Zeppelin (no I'm not
comparing bands, only their status), I would never say no to a listen of
AC/DC or Aerosmith!

Not your fault, Seth! Anyhow, when you love Soundgarden, how could you have
low morale?!?

In the mean time, my finger hasn't really been on Soundgarden's pulse - I'm
still getting into the swing of this mailing list...

Does anyone know if and/or when Soundgarden will be coming anywhere near
Australia? I know it wouldn't be a big money earner for them, but judging by
my friends (and the number of students coming on the list from University of
Queensland), there's a good support for them Down Under.

Cheers!

Jackhammer.

songs now. they sound better now in concert than on the album, for the
most part.

I would still argue that to compare songs from soundgarden's
early days to what they are doing now is a moot point. practically all
of their more recent work is better in terms of both songwriting and
musicianship. I'm not putting down their first two albums here, but if
the wreck was going down and I had to choose between screaming life and
superunknown, I'm afraid the former wouldn't get a look in.

having said that, there is some good stuff on soundgarden's early
records. I would not write them off as a learning experience, but that
is actually what they are. and it's a learning experience I would like
to have had.

yes, morale is high. and the list will probably be better
without a bunch of people who say they can't find anything about
soundgarden in their mailbox, but who also can't find any messages
regarding unsubscribing and how not to do it.

are we worried about them jumping ship?

I thought they were all rats anyway.

OK,

I'm not sure how I got on this list. I certainly didn't put myself on
it, but I will check it out for a while to see how good this list is.

Indeed Soundgarden are a great band, and I have copies of all their albums.
Chris Cornell has a unique voice and is very reminisant of Robert Plant at
times. Are they back in the studios at the moment? That is what I heard
anyway.

I will remain on this list for a while, but if the posts aren't
intelligent,such as : Fav Band-NIRVANA!!!!!!!!, I will definitely remove
myself. I've been a part of the Faith No More Caca Volante list since
the beginning of the year and have enjoyed it immensely. The topics
discussed are not only relevant, but informing. From the posts I've
received in the last 24 hours from the Soundgarden list, I've been
unimpressed except for a few.

This of course is just my view, and I did not subscribe myself to this list.

Hello all!
Over the years I've heard soundgarden mature muscally. A friend
gave me a tape of Ultramega Ok. Thought it had some strange music but at
the same time found it quite interesting. So, I began to follow the band
through releases. Being suprized with each one. Now, if I can just see
them live instead of having to listen to boots.

the mail I got saying that this stuff would be easy to make yourself..I
don't think so, it looked pretty professional.

This seems to be a common occurence, a lot of these unsubscribe messages
seem to be expressing surprise at being on here..

Do any of you guys know if Soundgarden have ever played 4th of July in
concert. That would be my number one request live, it's such a good song.
Regarding blind dog's post asking about "No Attention", it's a
very fine song, it changes key and mood so many times. Every time you
think it's about to end it breaks into another stanza. For all of you who
want to find it it it's on the Pearl Jam Self Pollution Radio bootleg. I
hired it out from my local CD library: stroke of luck eh :)
