Just out of interest, IMHO the drumming found on Pearl Jam is not over
taxing (this is from the experience of a keyboard player who's been required
to drum at times) - no offence intended, and I believe that their music is
very enjoyable (it certainly gets my head nodding to the rhythm!). At any
rate, if the drummer for PJ is free to change (as it appears to be), I think
that drumming must not be regarded as THE most important part of the band's
music - more an integral part that keeps PJ rocking.

Cheers!

I don't want to sound like a whinger, but I'd be interested in people's
opinions (although I suspect what they may be in general) - do you think
that there's room for a keyboardist in such an Ultimate Band Lineup? OK, so
many people would be hard pressed to think up the names of keyboardists in
hard rock music (and yeah, I'm drawing the line at Axel Roses' efforts on
Use Your Illusion I and II and the like - the songs with the keyboard
(mainly piano) were nothing like hard rock)... there's Roddy Bottum on keys
for Faith No More (who I had the pleasure of seeing last night here in
Brisbane).

Anyone care to share their thoughts (I'm not fussed one way or the other - I
respect everyone's opinion, I'd just like to hear them)?

And to stir you up a bit more... is there or will there ever be room for a
keyboardist in Soundgarden?

I'd love to hear from you all!

Jackhammer.
(Yeah, in case you hadn't picked it up, I play keyboards!)

I know many of you have seen SG live and some may have even met them. I have
not - ever time they are in my part of the country, I'm in another part (price
you pay for having a job that has some travel). So any personal encounters
would be great to hear about. The closes for me, was meeting the brother of a
bass player, who turned down (he wanted to finish collage) the position filled
by Ben Sheppard.

Now I ask you, was he right (turning down the slot)? Would a different
combination of players change the degree of success that the band has
received? Would Ben have formed Hater? Fate, Zen, Karma who knows?

For you who have not seen it, there is a wonderful chart located under images
on the Pearl Jam home page (see below). The chart is named Goldmine Tree and
it displays the life cycle of the bands in Seattle.

seth, you mentioned before that you like classical...right on! i like

okay, new topic: what are all you guys' favorite movies? i know, you're
probably all saying, what the hell do movies have to do with soundgarden, but
i just think i'd ask a question within the realm of entertainment...so, i'll
just list my favorites:

harold and maude--(my all-time favorite) ferris bueller's day off, clue,
planet of the apes, close encounters of the third kind, heathers, the gods
must be crazy, lord of the
flies----(the old, black and white one) and last, but not least, i still
have a weakness for;
the breakfast club....

so, what do you all think? oh yeah, to let this relate to music a bit more,
i have another question-----------what are your favorite soundtracks???

as for me, i like the soundtracks to----singles, the crow, dazed and
confused, philadelphia---(killer opera song) fast times at ridgemont high,
the breakfast club, oh yeah, pretty in pink is pretty good too........

I would like to pursue the topic of themes in the lyrics of Chris Cornell.
 Everyone could please
contribute to this:

Theme #1: Catholic Stuff

Jesus Christ Pose
Holy Water
"I'm going to the Holy Land" (Drown me in you)
Your Savior (temple of the dog)
etc, etc

and my personal favorite, Tears, rain & water:
"the wreck is going down, get out before you drown"
"Drown me in you"
"holy water's rusting me"
"And we fall like a tear falling to the ground"
"in the pouring down wind"
"Soundgarden is a tear in an eye dreaming"
"won't you come and wash away the rain"

can you add to my lists?
think of any more themes??

    An addition to Catholic/Religious Themes:
Wooden Jesus(Temple Of Dog) "Wooden Jesus I'll cut You in on 20% of my
        future sin"
Fourth of July "Jesus Tries to Crack a Smile, Beneath another Shovel
        Load"
Beyond The Wheel (Says something Discernable about The Holy)
        Limo Wreck "Harvest the Souls"
Say Hello To Heaven (Temple of the dog)
Black Hole Sun "In my Youth I pray to keep"
Exit Stonehenge "Jesus I can't see my feet"
If I think of more I will send them.

In addition to Tears, rain and Water
Rusty Cage "I'll take the river down to still water, and ride a pack of
        dogs"

    Another Theme Slaves/Imprisonment
Rusty Cage "I'm gonna break my rusty Cage and run"
        Slaves and Bull Dozers
Jesus Christ Pose "You swear to Me, you don't want to be my slave"
Limo Wreck "Hands of the slave"
Hunger Strike "Slaves are all working"

And Yes another Theme: Snakes and Dogs
     Dogs:
Call me a dog "You call me a dog"
Rusty Cage (The dogs are looking for there bones)
Outshined "Where The dogs are shedding"
     Snakes:
Black hole Sun " Snakes in My Shoes"
         Get On the Snake
Black Hole Sun "Lies The Snake"

Ah, favorite movies:

Field of Dreams (baseball freak)
Pulp Fiction (violence, gore, foul lingo, great movie quotes!)
The Crow (wish they would have used the soundtrack more in the movie)
Flash Gordon (only cuz its better than any of those Star Trek movies & tv
programs)
The Untouchables (simply amazing motion picture.. and great theme music)
Glory (comments won't do justice (c: )
... ok.. that's all can think of now

not really but: singles.. damn Vedder, Cornell, Ament & Gossard can act...
but SG didnt' sound to great live in that one scene... btw: anyone noticed
the Spoonman riff used as background music in the movie at one point?

soundtracks:
singles (of course)
Grease (hey, I had a twisted childhood)
Backbeat
Blind Dogs (anyone see the movie)
The Crow

I saw the movie. It was a true story about someone's heroine addiction
(he later became a peot). It is a very well done film and very honest. It
shows what a heroine addiction can do in a very graphic manner. I would
recommend show this to people who are on the verge of a drug problem. It
is a very scarry and sobering film.

I'm on the aic list as well as this one, and there is a guy on it

he wrote to the group saying that yes, there is a new disc coming out in
september (7th?), and that he has tickets to the first show of their new
world tour on september 4 in offenbach germany. cool if it's true, eh?

also, there was a posting on the group which was about a new
willie nelson tribute album which is coming out soon. I can hear you all
laughing at me, but one of the songs is reported to have:

	johnny cash on vocals
	kim thayil on lead guitar
	krist novoselic on bass
	and sean kinney on drums

	that's a song I've *got* to hear!

finally, I'm wondering where everybody heard she likes suprises,
'cause I know that it isn't on every release.

Unk,
I saw the movie singles to, where exactly does cornell have a scene in the
movie? Besides the fact that Matt Dillon Completely stole his look.

Oddly enough, Louder than Love was the first ever CD I bought, way back
when. I fell in love with Soundgarden's music and energy that very same
day. I have lived in Seattle my whole life, but sadly I hadn't heard of them
until Louder Than Love. It is a remarkable album, and I would suggest it. I
have Badmotorfinger and Superunknown, (used to have Louder than Love)
,anyway, can anybody tell me what other SG albums are worth checking out?

(Incidentally, I also have the Singles soundtrack)

*** Korea, Canada or maybe Taiwan ***

to michael:

every soundgarden album is worth getting. you are letting
yourself down if you don't have them all. I do, however, prefer their
newer stuff to their subpop releases. it's something about the way they
write their songs these days. mesmerising, I guess.

to everyone:

who has heard the song no attention? it's on a couple of
bootlegs, and I'm just wondering if someone can tell me how it sounds.
it's been around since the superunknown sessions, but has only really
been played of late (eddie vedder's self pollution radio).

so if someone has heard it, try comparing it to another
soundgarden song which is kinda the same.

Tony,
other soundgarden albums worth checking out, are Ultramega Ok and
Screaming life/fopp and any of the bootlegs rated A or -A in Seth's
Bootleg archive. Screaming Life is kinda raw, But Ultramega is pretty
decent. Chris shows that great songwriting ability more lyrics than music
on Screaming But I think they were merely polishing they're playing skills
because they're old stuff sounds incredible live.

What are all the movies SG's done music for (i.e.been played during the movie)?

I can think of Pacific Heights, Waynes World, and Singles, of course.

what else?

_Ultramega OK_ is, for me, the best SG album by far. It would
definitely be my desert island disc. On no other album does Chris
display the vocal prowess he shows on this one; I could listen to
"Beyond the Wheel" again and again and never tire of it. If you buy
just one more disc before you die, make sure it's _Ultramega OK_.

[side note: I didn't compile the bootleg discography; in fact, I've
never heard virtually all of the albums listed, though I saw almost
all of them for sale just today. The boot discog was compiled by
Steve Russell, Jr.]
