I read that Ben Shepard was pissed off that Soundgarden had taken the
path towards the mainstream somewhat with SUPERUNKNOWN, weren't there
even rumours of the band splitting up <shudder> at the start of this year?

Mmmm Jason Everman how we all love him...Hiro was cool, but Ben is better.
Isn't J.E in one of the early Soundgarden clips??

Hi all,

I'm wondering does anyone out there like "Half" on Superunknown ?? This
song, IMHO, is the only bad part of the awesome album. It sounds like some
Indian/Pakistani/Muslim song to me. Are there any reasons why this was included
on the album in the first place, seeing as it's a complete change from the rest
of it ??

It is a pretty strange song... Maybe Ben wanted it to be there just
because... not a very good reason is it.

What does it mean anyway?

Yes, I like "Half". Since I'm more of a Ben Sheppard fan then a Soundgarden
fan, this could be why. Don't get me wrong, I have been enjoying Soundgarden
from the beginning (pre Sheppard days). But since he was added to the group,
their music has really improved. A case of the right combination of people?

Why was it included on Superunknow - maybe the group wanted a little
diversion, or since SG is compared to Led Zeppelin, they try adding the
eastern sound (a ploy Page/Plant still use today).

By Far the CD that I play the most and enjoy the most is "Hater". Reminds me
of the works of the late great Rory Gallagher.

i believe that the eastern influence is kim's. most of his songs/solos
seem to have that "eastern" flavor. his heritage backs this up.

On the subject oi the song Half - I would have to agree with Jamesetta on
this one - after seeing Page & Plant play here in Dublin, Ireland two weeks
ago (and what a concert that was !) it does have the same sort of Led Zep
feel to it. A small taste of "Easter Promise" to spice up an already
"madras hot" album.

Later,
Tiernan.

Yes, I like "Half". Since I'm more of a Ben Sheppard fan then a Soundgarden

fan, this could be why. Don't get me wrong, I have been enjoying
Soundgarden
from the beginning (pre Sheppard days). But since he was added to the
group,
their music has really improved.

Reminds
me
of the works of the late great Rory Gallagher.

If anyone read that email from Mark Krubsack, I would appreciate it also
if there is any info concerning the availability of a bootleg tape of
Soundgarden's 1994 San Jose appearance last June. Anyone feel that bass
goin during that short palm mute section in their opener, "Let Me
Drown"?

Hey, do the lyrics on the cd inlay match whatever the hell that screaming voice
in the background is saying?? It's an okay song...kinda breaks up the continu
ity of the album, yet provides a crescendoing mood for Like Suicide.

Clowns with Bazookas,
I personally think that superunknown is in a dead heat with badmotorfinger
as soundgardens best album, I cannot really decide wich one I like better
super has songs like limo wreck, head down, and fell on, fresh tendrils
etc, but those songs don't have the nasty guitar riffs that holy water and
new damage have, however they make up for that with songs like the fourth
of july and mailman. the albums sound so disimilar it's hard to judge the
better one. But I am leaning toward super because it's superior lyrically
and they explored some interesting and diverse sounds. As for louder than
love I liked some of those trippy songs too, Kyle petty son of Richard
sounds like some of that material but there are some superunk influences
also and some I've never heard of before anyway can't wait for the new
    album.

Its pretty hard for Soundgarden to be accepted as a Pop Rock band if
the industry considers them a heavy metal band. In case you forgot,
MTV awarded them best Heavy Metal Video last year. Chris Cornell said
something sarcastic about the 'biz classifying Soundgarden as a heavy
metal band while accepting the award.

Judging from the rebirth of punk (or corporate Hollywood deciding that
punk is the thing), maybe its a matter of time before heavy metal
becomes the "in thing" too. Until then, Black Hole Sun type of videos
and singles will probably be the only types that get air play.

Personally, my fav's are Jesus Christ Pose, Say Hello to Heaven (I
know its not entirely SG), The Day I Tried to Live, and Like Suicide.

BTW, I know this is kindof off of subject, but I just discoverd a band
from Australia called Silverchair. They just released a CD called
     Fromstomp. I highly reccommend it.

     just my two (non)cents

Many of you have probably received bounced mail, with some message
about attempted delivery for three days to cochran@sbctc.ctc.edu. I
apologize for this. It seems this was not a valid email address,
though sbctc.ctc.edu kept all messages for three days, attempting to
deliver them to 'cochran.' This email address has been removed from
the list, so just bear with it a bit longer, and you shouldn't receive
bounced mail any more.

Again, I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this has caused
you.
