Engineers, Speak Up, But Speak Well
According to studies of organizational environments, the typical workday
communication involves 75% oral communication, including 45% listening and
30% speaking. Other studies show that the typical engineering professional
will give a presentation at least once a month. The skill to make an effective
oral presentation is highly sought after. This course puts participants on
a fast track to improving presentations, especially of technical information
and ideas. Participants learn to emphasize the information needs of their
audience by understanding the requirements of ORAL presentations. Of special
note are two key areas. The first is the qualities of oral language. By working
from the way audience members listen, participants learn to organize their
thoughts and form their language for the ear. The second is the visualization
of information and ideas. By understanding basic methods of the design of
presentation graphics, participants learn how to best integrate visual materials
that support their oral communication.
